On the evening of June 18, 2025, SENO Atelier in Velké Pavlovice officially opened its doors with the first solo exhibition by painter Michal Janovský, titled Under the Roots. The turnout exceeded all expectations—despite summer weather that seemed more suited to swimming than oil painting, the space was filled with art lovers, curious visitors, and friends.
Vernissage Atmosphere
The atelier buzzed with an atmosphere that was friendly, intrigued, and concentrated. Visitors wandered through the gallery, asked questions, listened attentively, and engaged deeply with the artwork. Michal himself guided guests through his visual world, sharing the inspiration behind individual pieces and the playful surprises that occurred during their creation. His commentary was witty yet sincere—just like his work.
Michal Janovský: The Artist
Michal Janovský (b. 1984) began his career as a pastel portraitist but has increasingly turned to large-format oils and even some striking charcoal works. His style borders between symbolism and morbid romanticism, often exploring the human relationship with nature, life, and death. His work evokes mystery and echoes the emotional intensity of Renaissance and Baroque masters—yet remains rooted in dark humor and contemporary relevance.
Prior to this exhibition, Michal held solo shows in venues including Prague, Česká Lípa, Bratislava, and Budapest. He has won multiple awards for portraiture at national art fairs in České Budějovice.
Exhibition Highlights
The Under the Roots collection features standout works such as “Když ti šplouchá na maják”, “Nejsladší”, “Krev a mlíko”, and “Švec”. These pieces combine irony, dark humor, rich symbolism, and playful nods to both personal and universal themes.
Guests could also purchase Michal’s autobiographical book and his practical guide to dry pastel painting—both of which remained available throughout the exhibition.
